Cloud region
A cloud region is a specific geographic location where a cloud provider runs its data centers, letting an application be deployed physically closer to its users.
Prerequisite: Load balancer
What matters
Choosing a region closer to most users reduces the physical distance data has to travel, which directly affects how fast responses feel.
Example
An application with mostly European users might be deployed in a European cloud region rather than one on another continent, to reduce response delay.
Common misconception
A cloud region choice is not just about cost; it also affects latency for users and can affect which data-residency or compliance rules apply.
Recall question
Why might an application be deployed in a region far from its provider's cheapest option?
