Content Credentials
Content Credentials is a specific technical standard for attaching tamper-evident provenance information, like editing history, directly to a media file.
Prerequisite: Content provenance
What matters
Being tamper-evident means any attempt to strip or falsify the credentials can itself be detected, rather than relying purely on trust that the metadata wasn't altered.
Example
An image published with Content Credentials might show a verifiable record of each editing tool used on it, viewable by anyone checking the file.
Common misconception
Content Credentials do not make a piece of content itself immune to being faked; they make its claimed history verifiable and tampering with that history detectable.
Recall question
What does 'tamper-evident' mean for a Content Credentials record?
