Database table

A database table stores records as rows, each with the same set of named columns defining what data every row contains.

Prerequisite: Relational database

What matters

Because every row shares the same column structure, a table enforces a consistent shape for its data, which is what makes querying and reasoning about it predictable.

Example

A 'users' table might have columns for id, name, and email, with each row representing one individual user's data in that same structure.

Common misconception

A database table is not the same as a spreadsheet, even though both look similar; a table enforces defined column types and relationships a spreadsheet does not.

Recall question

What must every row in a database table share in common?
