CI pipeline

A CI pipeline automatically builds and tests code every time changes are pushed, catching integration problems early instead of discovering them later.

Prerequisite: Unit test

What matters

Running the same checks automatically on every change means broken code is caught immediately after being introduced, rather than after it's already merged and affecting others.

Example

Pushing a code change might automatically trigger a CI pipeline that installs dependencies, runs the test suite, and reports failure before the change can be merged.

Common misconception

A CI pipeline is not the same as deployment; CI is specifically about building and testing changes, while actually releasing them is a separate, later step.

Recall question

What problem does automatically testing every change on push help catch earlier?
