Container
A container packages an application together with everything it needs to run, so it behaves the same way regardless of the machine it's deployed on.
What matters
Because the packaged environment travels with the application, a container helps avoid the classic 'it worked on my machine' problem caused by differing installed dependencies.
Example
A container might bundle an application's code along with the exact version of its runtime and libraries, so it runs identically on a developer's laptop and a production server.
Common misconception
A container is not the same as a full virtual machine; it shares the host machine's operating system kernel rather than running an entirely separate operating system.
Recall question
What classic deployment problem does packaging an app in a container help avoid?
