HTTP response
An HTTP response is the message a server sends back after receiving a request, including a status code and, usually, the requested data.
Prerequisite: HTTP request
What matters
The response's status code and body together tell the client whether the request succeeded, failed, or needs some other action, which drives how the client behaves next.
Example
A server might respond to a page request with a 200 status code and the page's HTML in the response body.
Common misconception
An HTTP response is not just the data returned; the status code carries essential meaning even when the response body is empty.
Recall question
What two things does an HTTP response typically include?
