Model input
A model input is the data given to a model at the moment it is asked to produce a result, such as a prompt, image or table of numbers.
What matters
Every model is built to expect input in a specific format and structure; a mismatch between what you provide and what the model expects is a common source of errors.
Example
For a text-generation model, the input is the prompt text; for an image classifier, the input is the pixel data of a photo.
Common misconception
Input is not the same as training data; input is supplied at use time, while training data shaped the model beforehand.
Recall question
How does a model's input differ from the data it was trained on?
