Real-world outcome
A real-world outcome is the actual effect a system has on people's lives, distinct from how accurately it performs on a technical benchmark or test dataset.
What matters
A model can score well on accuracy yet still produce poor real-world outcomes, since technical performance and lived impact are related but genuinely separate things to measure.
Example
A highly 'accurate' hiring model could still produce a poor real-world outcome if it systematically screens out qualified candidates from one group.
Common misconception
Strong technical performance metrics do not automatically guarantee good real-world outcomes; the two need to be measured and evaluated separately.
Recall question
Why can a technically accurate model still produce a poor real-world outcome?
